What is M-Pesa?

M-Pesa is Africa’s most successive mobile money service.  It was launched in 2007 by Safaricom which is the largest mobile network operator in Kenya. Later Safaricom expanded its mobile money services to other countries like  Nigeria.

How do I download M-PESA App?

Around the beginning of 2020, Safaricom introduced the Mpesa App.  The app has some handy features like sending money to multiple accounts. The App has over 5 million downloads, you can download it here.

How does the M-PESA App work?

Once you download the app, setting it up is easy. Once your mobile number is verified and all your details are correct, you then set up your biometrics, and you’re good to go. You can use the app to pay bills, send money, and buy goods and services.

The UI is simple and friendly and it takes a few minutes to get used to. As mentioned earlier, the app has some handy features. One feature I like is that you can choose to display or hide your account balance and recent transactions. You can also mark your favorite contacts and they will appear on top of other contacts when you want to select the contacts to send money to.

On your app profile, there are features like offline mode which you can use when there is no internet access. You can also manage your favorite contacts and change pin or biometrics.

How much can you send to M-PESA at once?

Currently, the maximum amount one can send in a day is 300,000 Kshs. The app also allows you to send money to many people at once. The amount can be specified as per the individual recipients.

Here is how you do it.

• Log in to your Mpesa App. Go to Transact

• Next, press Send Money

• Select Send to Many and select all the contacts you want to send the money to.

Note that you can specify the amount you want to send per recipient.
