Showmax Originals
With the growing demand for new content, Showmax has been at the forefront of providing original local content with shows like Crime and Justice, and Single Kiasi.
Productions such as Selina, Kina, Sultana, Maria, Zora, Pete, and, most recently, Salem, telenovelas have set the pace and quickly became one of Kenya’s most popular genres among viewers.
People, according to Denise Mwende, Showmax Content Specialist in East Africa, need something to look forward to that will give them a brief break from their daily routine while also being current enough to talk about with others. Telenovelas, she claims, provide a consistent way of doing this.
Showmax is also looking for exciting film proposals that take a fresh, creative approach to the genres of mystery, thriller, or crime. The 90-minute English and Swahili feature film should have a strong commercial edge.
Showmax is already collaborating with production companies such as Insignia Productions for Single Kiasi, and Yare Productions for Igiza.
Igiza will be released on May 23rd, Kibanda Pictures for County 49, which will be released in the second half of the year. CJ3 Entertainment for Pepeta, is a football-centered crime drama that will be released later in the year.
