Why do smartphone chips have an AI processor?

Over the last couple of years, virtual assistants and also AI processors have been a breakthrough in the smartphone world technology.

Going back to when Apple released the A11 Bionic which had a new AI ” Neural Engine”. Huawei also released Kirin 970 which boasts a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that later came out with the Huawei Mate 10.

Samsung also released the Exynos 9611 which has intelligent performance for the next generation experience from artificial intelligent applications to pro- grade camera experience. The Exynos 9611 has built in AI Engine that consists of Vision Processing Unit.

Qualcomm has been ahead of the circle when it comes to AI processors since the founding of Hexagon DSP (Digital Signal Processor) inside its Snapdragon flagship processors.

Deep learning algorithms use large amounts of data and the computational power of the GPU to learn information directly from data such as images, signals, and text. 

Deep learning frameworks offer flexibility with designing and training custom deep neural networks and provide interfaces to common programming language.

Most people can’t tell the difference between artificial intelligence and machine learning however there is an important difference worth looking at.
AI has a very extensive concept used to illustrate machines that can think almost as close as humans or have some sort of artificial brain that is close to that of humans.

Exynos 9611 processor has a built-in AI engine which consists of vision processing unit. The VPU enables the smartphone to feature an intelligent pro-grade camera that in turn makes smart enhancements to pictures. this is all possible through the deep – learning technology in the chipset.

Snapdragon 865 from Qualcomm comes with a fifth-generation AI engine in all aspects. The A.I features can be found in all aspects like photography,gaming,audio and so on.

Other than that,the chipset also features Qualcomm Sensing Hub designed to be contingently relate with the user’s environment using data from the device’s sensors.

According to Qualcomm the 865 can power things like real-time translation, bringing much more improvement from the previous generation.
